India Extends Lockdown to Cover Almost all 1.3 Billion Citizens
The Indian authorities are grounding all domestic flights and putting most of the country, the worlds second most populous, in full lockdown. The number of confirmed cases in India remains relatively low - about 420 - but the government fears there are many more hidden cases. Read more.
Fireworks in Wuhan as Checkpoints are Taken Down
Some in Wuhan, the Chinese city hit hardest by the coronavirus, celebrated with fireworks as authorities began removing checkpoints after reporting no new cases for a third day, while other places also eased restrictions. Read more.
WHO Launched Global Megatrial of 4 Most Promising Treatments
A drug combo already used against HIV. A malaria treatment first tested during World War II. A new antiviral whose promise against Ebola fizzled last year. On Friday, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced a large global trial, called SOLIDARITY, to find out whether any can treat infections with the new coronavirus for the dangerous respiratory disease. Global Level 4 Health Advisory
The U.S. Department of State has issued a Level 4 Health Advisory for all U.S. citizens to avoid international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19. In countries where commercial departure options remain available, U.S. citizens who live in the United States should arrange for immediate return to the United States, unless they are prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period. 2020 Olympic Games Could be Postponed
The International Olympic Committee has set itself a four-week deadline to make a decision about Tokyo 2020. The committee is considering postponing the Games, saying cancellation is “not on the agenda”. Read More .
