1. Change of Payment on Airline Tickets
The Airline Reporting Corporation (ARC) will no longer allow
change of payment on an airline ticket. Should you find it
necessary to change your form of payment (example: change to a
different credit card) World Travel will have to make the change
manually adding a 5% service charge to the process.
2. 1-2-3 Travel FREE - American, Northwest and US Airways Match
United Promotion
American, Northwest and US Airways have matched the United
Airlines promotion that awards travelers a free, roundtrip coach
ticket within the continental U.S. if you fly three round-trip
business class tickets by a specified date set by the airline. For
additional rules and regulations set by each airline, please
contact your World Travel representative.
3. United Airlines Testing a New Boarding Process
United began boarding customers in four groups (1,2,3 and 4)
instead of calling them by rows, in a change that helped to speed
the boarding process by as much as 30% when it tested the system
in Indianapolis and Chicago on June 10. The boarding passes
automatically assign a boarding number in large, bold text, the
airline said. The change applies to all United and United Express
domestic markets, but some international locations will continue
to use the row system because of airport or cultural differences.
4. Air France Opening 1st Phase to Terminal E at Paris-Charles
de Gaulle Airport
On June 17, 2003 Air France is opening the 1st phase of their
newest Terminal. Terminal E will accommodate flights from Atlanta,
Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Newark, New York JFK and San
Francisco. Also in Terminal E an additional security checkpoint
lane has been created for Club 2000, Frequence Plus Rouge and
Frequence Plus Bleu members. The new terminal will offer 53
check-in counters and 10 gate-parking stands. Other stages of
completion will occur in 2004 & 2006.
5. SARS Update
The World Health Organization (WHO) says it is deeply concerned
by the resurgence of SARS cases in Toronto, raising the
possibility that a travel warning could be re-imposed on the
Canadian city. Although the WHO has not yet taken that decision,
90 new probable cases of the respiratory virus have been reported
in the last three weeks and health authorities in the city are
again on high alert.
6. US Airways Express Begins Huntsville/New York Regional Jet
Service
On June 8, 2003 US Airways Express began nonstop regional jet
service between Huntsville, Alabama and New York's LaGuardia
Airport. The new service is operated by US Airways Express carrier
Chautauqua Airlines using Embraer-145 Regional Jets. The new daily
flight departs New York at 2:05pm and arrives in Huntsville at
3:38pm. The return flight departs Huntsville at 4:10pm and arrives
in New York at 7:25pm.
