Air Traffic Controllers Strike in France
A one-day strike scheduled by air traffic controllers in France
for Tuesday, June 3, 2003 has forced the DGAC (French Civil
Aviation Authority) to apply minimum service rules and to allocate
a certain number of flights to each airline.
The following regional airports in France will be closed during
the strike. Avignon (AVN), Brest (BES), Biarritz (BIQ), Metz/Nancy
(ETZ), Grenoble (GNB), Lille (LIL), Montpellier (MPL), Perpignan (PGF)
and Pau (PUF).
Air France plans to operate 100 percent of its long-haul
flights and 35 percent of its medium and short-haul flights.
British Airways is expecting to cancel 90 of its 120 daily
flights into France. British Airways flights to and from France
will be affected at Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Birmingham,
Manchester, Bristol and Edinburgh.
At the time of this press release we have not been notified by
other carriers with scheduled flights into France but assume their
schedules will be effected by the strike.
World Travel is monitoring flights scheduled for travel into
France through our quality control system and will contact those
who may be affected by the strike. We do advise anyone flying into
or connecting through France on June 3 to reconfirm his or her
flight itinerary by calling your World Travel reservationist. The
strike is expected to start at 6:00pm Eastern Standard Time on
Monday, June 2 and last 24 hours.
