1. Airlines Reporting Corporation Implements New Airline Ticket
Void Policy -
The Airline Reporting Corporation will be implementing the
Business Process Improvement plan, which will limit the timeframe
in which transactions may be modified or voided. Effective for
tickets issued on or after June 2, airline customers will have 24
hours after purchasing a ticket to decide if in fact she/he wants
the ticket. The ticket may be voided up to 24 hours after the
reservation has been made, however, after that time the ticket may
no longer be voided. Please make certain
all travelers within your organization are aware of this new
policy.
2. American Airlines Caps Certain Coach Class Fares and
Announced Partial Reversal on Extra Leg Room
American Airlines will compete with low cost competition by
capping coach class fares on routes between New York JFK and Long
Beach, Orange County and San Jose, California. One-way coach class
fares are priced at $299 or less excluding taxes and fees.
American also plans to return to standard seating on 23 percent of
its fleet. This change will take place primarily in aircraft’s
serving leisure markets an area where customers say price and seat
availability at low prices is predominantly how they choose a
carrier.
3. Complimentary Limousine Service for Lufthansa’s Business Jet
Passengers
Lufthansa now offers complimentary limousine service for
passengers flying Lufthansa’s Business Jet between Newark and
Dusseldorf or Newark and Munich. This service is available to all
US originating passengers having purchased a Business Class ticket
in either C or D class on Lufthansa flights LH409, LH408, LH413
and LH412. This offer is valid until August 31, 2003 for customers
in the following areas: Eastern, PA (up to Allentown), Delaware,
New Jersey, New York (New York City and Westchester) and
Connecticut (up to Stamford). Other rules and restrictions may
apply.
4. British Airways Removes First Class from Certain Routes
British Airway plans to eliminate first class seating on some
of the carrier’s long-haul aircraft. Focusing on markets where
demand for first class service is low, those being considered are
Denver, Phoenix and San Diego all serviced by Boeing 777 aircraft.
5. SARS Alert Lifted for Hong Kong, Reinstated for Toronto
On May 23 the World Health Organization (WHO) removed its
recommendation that people postpone all but essential travel to
Hong Kong. Toronto has been put back on the official list of SARS-affected
areas but the World Health Organization is advising that travel to
Canada’s largest city is still safe. A travel alert does not
advise against travel, but informs travelers of a health concern
and provides advice about specific precautions. For current
updates visit WHO’s website at
http://www.who.int
Air Canada Eliminates Paper Tickets
Effective June 1 Air Canada will no longer offer paper tickets
for travel wholly within North America. For tickets issued for
travel outside of North America, Air Canada will offer paper
tickets for a fee (US$20/CA$30). However, Air Canada’s fee does
not apply to paper tickets issued by travel agents.
Department of State Announcement
