SARS Update -
The World Health Organization is lifting its travel warning
for Toronto as the number of SARS cases in the Canadian city has
decreased.
Leaders of South East Asian countries are expected to confirm
plans to introduce screening at all major airports in the region
as part of the fight against the SARS virus.
Vietnam is the first country to successfully control SARS
since the outbreak began. There have not been any new cases of
the virus since April 8. According to the World Health
Organization if there are not any new cases for 20 days then the
disease is considered controlled.
The latest World Health Organization figures shows the number
of cases globally is now over 5000 and the death toll has risen
to 321.

States.

of October using 199-seat Boeing 767 aircraft.
Transportation Security Administration to Reduce Number of
Screeners
The number of screeners at US airports is to be reduced by 6000
in a cost-cutting move by the Transportation Security
Administration (TSA). The TSA, formed in response to the terrorist
attacks of September 11, 2001, has been criticized in some
political circles for growing too big. Its present screener work
force totals 55,600. The agency will cut 3,000 jobs by May 31 and
another 3,000 by the end of November.
