What’s Going On in Your Destination?

Convention Season Is Coming.

You know that sinking sensation you get when you arrive at your hotel and there are a lot of people around? Like, a lot a lot? And then, as you’re waiting in an ungodly long check-in line, you hear the group of people in front of you (who all seem to know each other, and will all miraculously have rooms ready, even though you’ll be told to come back at 3PM to get your room key) drop the name of an organization or event that sounds HUGE.

“Just can’t wait for this All-the-Heavy-Breathing-Close-Talkers-in-the-World Convention.”
“I hear this year’s registration is almost double what last year’s was.”
“Man, I am just totally psyched for this! It’s gonna be great!”

You have nothing to do with this Convention. You have no interest in this Convention. You’re here to mind your own business, and get your own business done. But now you’ve got to share your hotel and the city you’re in with untold millions of people who are totally psyched about something you’ve never heard of.

Perhaps we’re a little cynical, although we're willing to bet that most travelers are only interested in sharing a hotel with a Convention they're actually a part of. But when it comes to traveling stress-free, knowing is half the battle. If you know where the conventions are happening, at least you can be prepared for them (and the rising room night rates).

That’s where we can help. Our amazing Consulting Services Department contacted Convention & Visitors Bureaus in 21 major U.S. cities to get a head’s up for what’s coming to town. Then they created the 2016 Convention Calendar (updated for events happening after April 14).

Some events are big. Some are little. Some you’ve never heard of. Some are going to be news-busters. (RNC Convention and DNC Convention, anyone?)  The little ones may not affect you much. The big ones will take up every hotel room in the city. Like these two:
